Sean Bennett Sean Bennett

Sean Bennett is an author and teacher with an extensive background in the trucking industry. His industry work history includes positions with a Freightliner dealership and Mack Trucks Incorporated. Beginning in 1989, Sean taught diesel fuel systems and engine management at Toronto’s Centennial College, where he was Program Coordinator of the truck department. He left Centennial College in June 2009 with the objective of focusing full time on technical writing pursuits.

Since 1997 Sean has authored over twenty-five textbooks addressing automotive, diesel engine and truck technology, including the best selling Heavy Duty Truck Systems and Medium/Heavy Duty Truck Engines, Fuel and Computerized Management Systems.

Career accomplishments include:
      • 2010 - Published the 5th Edition of Heavy Duty Truck Systems along with a comprehensive ancillary support package that includes a couple of digital options of the core textbook, a Student Workbook, chapter by chapter Powerpoints, ExamView computerized test banks, and WebTutor cartridges.

      • 2009 - Published Diesel Engines, an entry-level primer targeting high school learners. Diesel Engines is part of the Modern Diesel Technology series.

      • 2009 - Co-authored and published Canadian Truck and Transport Technician Certification Exam Preparation with Nelson/Centennial College Press.

      • 2008 - Published 3rd Edition of Medium/Heavy Duty Truck Engines, Fuel and Computerized Management Systems.

      • 2008 - Co-authored Heavy Equipment Systems for the Modern Diesel Technology Series published July 2008.

      • 2007 - Co-authored second edition of Canadian AST C of Q Test Prep published January 2008.

      • 2006 - Authored Electronic Diesel Engine Diagnosis for the Modern Diesel Technology Series published in January 2007.

      • 2006 - Authored Brakes, Steering and Suspension Systems for the Modern Diesel Technology Series published in January 2007.

      • 2005 - Revised and updated Heavy Duty Truck Systems 4th. Edition published in December 2005.

      • 2005 - Co-ordinated launch of Centennial College's two-year co-op diploma program in truck technology.

      • 2005 - Developed profile for, Modern Diesel Technology, a series of textbooks designed for modular delivery of truck and heavy equipment technology in one and two year college and university programs.

      • 2003 - Revised and updated Medium/Heavy Duty Truck Engines, Fuel and Computerized Management Systems for a 2nd Edition published in January 2004.

        Authored Basic Welding for Motive Power Technicians, Canadian AST C of Q Test Prep (with Dave Weatherhead) and Canadian Truck Technician C of Q Test Prep (with Martin Restoule and George Parsons).

        Acted as Series Advisor for Delmar Thomson Learning's 3rd Edition of AST Test Prep T-Series and the first edition of the S-Series.

      • 2002 - Technical editor for Delmar ASE test preparation T-Series and S-Series books

      • 2001 - Co-ordinated the Ontario Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities (MTCU) updating and revision of curricula for the Truck and Coach, Truck/Trailer and Powerlift Truck Technician apprenticeship programs for the province of Ontario.

      • 2000 - Revised and updated Heavy Duty Truck Systems, 3rd Edition co-authored with Andrew Norman and Robert Scharff.

      • 2000 - Initiated and became Program Co-ordinator for the Freightliner Modified Apprenticeship Program. A joint venture between Centennial College and Freightliner LLC.

      • 2000 - Co-authored Truck Diesel Engines with John Kershaw, published by Delmar Thomson Learning, NY.

      • 1999 - Authored the Diesel Fuel Systems and Diesel Engines Phase I and Phase II Modules of the Ontario Ministry of Education and Training (MET) Distance Education Project.

      • 1999 - Authored Medium/Heavy Duty Truck Engines, Fuel and Computerized Management Systems, published by Delmar Thomson Learning, NY.

      • 1997 - Authored Dictionary of Automotive Technology, published by Centennial College Press, Toronto, Ontario.

      • 1993 - Initiated the Mack Truck Training Center, a joint venture between Mack Trucks Inc. and Centennial College, Toronto, Ontario.

      • 1991-1994 - Chaired five motive power curriculum development committees for the Province of Ontario, and subsequently authored the curriculum for each.
